As the frenzy of the Christmas period begins to step up, The Willoughby Book Club are doing things a little differently and embracing the spirit of Giving Tuesday.

At Willoughby, we always seek to make a positive impact on the local community and beyond through thoughtful and compassionate actions, so Giving Tuesday is the perfect fit for us!
We've put together a bright and colourful box of books to donate to our local community here in Leicester. We hope to nurture the love and joy of books in young people, because regardless of their socio-economic background children should have access to books and reading.
Books and reading play such an important role in educational outcomes for young people and access to books from an early age can make such a difference in instilling a love of reading for pleasure, which can grow and develop over a lifetime. A study by the National Literacy Trust showed that reading for pleasure among children and young people is at an all time low. In the hustle and bustle of the modern world, along with the daily distractions of phones and tech, it can feel harder than ever to create and maintain the space needed to embrace reading for pleasure. Any small difference we can make toward getting books into the hands of young readers is an opportunity we will jump at, because all of us here at The Willoughby Book Club are lucky enough to live lives enriched by books and reading and always strive to share that joy with others.
Our participation in Giving Tuesday is aligned with our continual commitment to making a positive impact beyond retail. We believe that fostering a sense of community and spreading kindness can be just as fulfilling, if not more so, than the thrill of a new purchase.
