A typical day in the Willoughby office is probably not like a day in your average office (unless an average office has thinking time on a balance board!)
For Liv, our book selections specialist, her day in the office will always start with coffee.
The team will always share a cafetière of coffee together at 9am, which really helps us start the day in a positive- and caffeinated- way. There’s generally some sort of baked good available, most often brought in by our lovely Nic, who is our official snack provider. We try and wait for elevenses but it’s not uncommon to find one of us snaffling one earlier on.
Liv then spends a large portion of her day working through her subscriber log, wherein she reads our lovely customers’ order information, such as their bookish likes and dislikes, and personally select a monthly book for them from our heaving bookshelves, which we have physically here in the office. The books are then ready to be picked, wrapped and packaged by other members of the team. It’s a role that could be described as a remote, personalised bookseller. Every subscriber is unique in their interests, so every day is varied and different!
Liv particularly enjoys selecting the picture books for our younger readers and will read the funny ones aloud to the team…mostly unprompted!
Liv knows the bookshelves well. As an avid reader herself, she knows which books will suit certain readers. She especially enjoys selecting books for people who are looking to change up their reading habits and looking for something a bit different to what they normally read.
As well as book selecting, Liv will also write pieces for our blog, provide copy for the website and contribute to our regular newsletter. She can also be found writing quiz questions for our social media and helping out with other bits of admin, such as dealing with customer service inquiries and ordering book stock.
We’re a small team, so we’re often cross-working, which means we all have a solid understanding and appreciation for each other’s roles.
Liv will normally be found in ‘the zone’ listening to a podcast or music while working and/or trying to get Aishah to run down to our favourite coffee shop for a cappuccino.
