As the inevitable frenzy of Black Friday approaches, here at The Willoughby Book Club we've decided to do things a little differently and are embracing the spirit of Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday, which will take place on November 28th, is a global movement dedicated to giving back to our communities in various different ways. At Willoughby, we always seek to make a positive impact on the local community and beyond through thoughtful and compassionate actions, so Giving Tuesday is the perfect fit for us.
This year, therefore, we are redirecting our focus from discounts and deals to something more meaningful. We will be supporting our local food bank, and by contributing, we hope to make a difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity during these tough times.
In addition, we will be delivering books to 'Tots and Tinies', a wonderful Leicestershire play group which provides a welcoming, supportive and fun space for young children and their caregivers to spend a few hours each week. We always seek to nurture the love and joy of books and we aim to inspire an early love for reading by donating some wonderful titles for the play group to delight in.
Books and reading play such an important role in educational outcomes for young people, and access to books from an early age can make such a difference in inculcating a love of reading for pleasure that can grow and develop over a lifetime. Any small difference we can make toward getting books into the hands of young readers is an opportunity we will jump at.
Our participation in Giving Tuesday is aligned with our commitment to making a positive impact beyond retail. We believe that fostering a sense of community and spreading kindness can be just as fulfilling, if not more so, than the thrill of a Black Friday sale.
We encourage our customers and friends to join us and give back this Giving Tuesday. Whether it's supporting a local charity, volunteering your time, or simply spreading kindness, every small act contributes to creating a brighter and more compassionate world.
