It's International Women's Day, and here at The Willoughby Book Club we'll be celebrating. I'd like to think that in...
This Valentine's Day, Willoughby's thoughts are occupied by our one true love: reading. With the romance genre gaining more and more popular with readers, Willoughby Book Selections Specialist Olivia ponders its everlasting appeal and why it still has its naysayers.
Wherever you stand on making New Year's resolutions there's no escaping them at this time of year: the air is positively thick with good intentions. All of Team WBC are complete bookworms so our resolutions tend to be more of a bookish variety than salad eating or couch to 5k. Why not join us in setting a reading resolution for yourself?
Have you heard of 'Jolabokaflod'? This is an Icelandic tradition, roughly translating as 'Christmas Book Flood', and sounds heavenly to...
At Willoughby HQ we've been busy this month preparing orders for Christmas, so we've found ourselves really looking forward to the escape of opening a good book in the evenings. When I get the chance to sit and read I love thinking of all our subscribers also reading their new books. Maybe here and there we've sent one of those life-changingly great books? Here's hoping!
Here's what we've been reading recently.
Asking book lovers to choose their favourite book is never going to get you a simple answer! Most of us read widely and have lots of favourites, and the Willoughby team is no exception. However, the book of the year question comes round as predictably as Spoitfy Wrapped, and as much as we hate answering what our favourites were we're always keen to hear everyone else's, and look forward to the round ups in the Sunday papers.
Here are just a few of the titles we've particularly enjoyed from 2022. What were your reading highlights?
Gift giving for the book lover in your life can be challenging, but we’re here to take the stress out...
You might have guessed from our social media that Team Willoughby are very motivated by Delicious Drinks and Snacks! It never takes long for office conversation to turn to what we've been baking or are cooking up at the weekend, so all of us get pretty excited about seasonal cooking.
We were chatting together about what our favourite Christmassy drinks are, and decided to share them with you. After all, what could be nicer at this time of year than settling down with a good book and something delicious to sip on?
Well, the leaves are falling, the clocks have changed, and the nights are long and dark. With the cost of heating on everyone's mind at the moment we'll have to create hygge at home with the soft glow of candles and a hot water bottle tucked under a chunky blanket.
We'll be warding off the darkness and fallow months by getting through some of the books we've stashed throughout the year, and maybe doing a little bit of catching up on those reading goals we set back at the beginning of the year!
'Tis the season to be spooky...
Tis the season to be spooky! The leaves are turning brown, the nights are dark, and the rain feels never-ending. It’s the perfect time to grab a book and settle in, as we have plenty of spooky reads for you to sink your teeth into this October.
Whether you enjoy horror, psychological thrillers or a slightly more tame ghostly tale, we have something for everyone! The team at Willoughby have been busy carefully curating the perfect spooky reads for you.
There has been plenty sharing books fierce discussions over tea at the office.
Here are some of our recommendations!
